This is my annual "don't-feel-guilty-about-your-Christmas-lights" blog!
Every year, about a week or so after New Year's, I hear people saying they feel guilty for still having their lights up. Or they give their pals some friendly ribbing abouttheirlights.
I like to use our wonderful local tradition of the Plaza Lights as my guide. They always remain up a couple weeks into the New Year for people to enjoy. This year, the Plaza Lights will shine until late-night on SUNDAY, JANUARY 15TH.
THANKS to everyone who hung out with me on Facebook during the CMA Awards! It's so fun to predict the winners and root for your favorites! To join the party for future stuff like this, please 'like' my Facebook page... www.facebook.com/lauriearbore ...and I'll see ya there!

A month or so ago, you heard me interviewing WOLF artist Josh Kelley about his involvement with the Hunger-Free Summer program, which works to make sure children do not go hungry during the summer when they don't have access to school meals.Â
Josh explained how the ConAgra Foods Foundation had partnered with the Feeding America food bank network to form Hunger-Free Summer and provide grants to local food banks throughout the U.S. Josh spent the summer on a Hunger-Free Summer Tour, raising public awareness and visiting and volunteering at some of the food banks that received the grants.
As a matter of fact, Kansas City's own Harvesters - The Community Food Network was named Feeding Americaâs 2011 Food Bank of the Year! Learn more about Harvesters at www.harvesters.org.
Now that it's back-to-school time, I think it's still important to remember that it's never too late to get involved and help fight hunger.Â
Hunger is, unfortunately, something that affects people year-round. There might even be someone close to you who is hungry right now, even if they don't let you know. Let's make sure our friends and neighbors have access to nutritious food throughout the year.
September will be Feeding America's HUNGER ACTION MONTH, and the Harvesters website has a lot of great info (click here for a direct ink) about ways we can all take action right here in the KC area. Please check it out and see how you can help. Thanks, and take care!

If you need to catch up, or just want a re-cap, here's the final WINNER LIST...
But so far, it's been that odd, transitional time of year when Mother Nature can't quite make up her mind on whether it should actually *feel* like spring. LOL.     Â
Well, no matter what, I'm definitely excited about spring really, truly being here! With the Royals Home Opener, and then with Fountain Day coming up April 12th (when all of Kansas City, MO's 47 public fountains turn back on), it finally feels 'official,' doesn't it?  ENJOY!   Â
This is also the time of year I start snappin' all kinds of photos of the flowers in my garden -- can't wait for more and more stuff to bloom! :-)
One thing's for certain:Â St. Patrick's Day (a.k.a. Shotgun Jaxon Day) is huge in Kansas City!
Whatever you've got planned, have FUN! :-)
And if you choose to have some beverages, pleasedon't drink and drive. Call a friend or family member, call a cab... whatever it takes to get you and everyone else home safely!
Now and throughout the year, I wish you nothing but happiness -- hope you find lots of wonderful things at the end of the rainbow!
Remember that song when we were kids? "Rain, rain go away..."
It was fun to sing, but looking back, I've never agreed with the lyrics! LOL.Â
Of course, we all love to do outdoor stuff on a perfect, sunny day! :-)Â But I've always enjoyed the rainy days, too!
Being inside on a rainy day... driving in the rain... hiking in the woods when it's softly raining... watching a spooky old movie when it's raining... We've got a lot of rain this time of year, but as long as the power stays on and the basement stays dry, I love it!
This is a magical time of year if you have prom coming up! Whether you're in high school or you have a friend or family member who will have prom this year, you know there will be some shopping involved! There's a lot of stuff to get, and it adds up pretty quickly.
We've heard recently from Deb, with Grandview Assembly of God church, and she has some really great news! She'll be hosting a PROM DRESS GIVEAWAY, open to girls in the Kansas City area. The dresses are FREE! How cool is that? Deb wants to help girls and their families who are having a hard time, and I think that is wonderful! This could help take away some of the worry, so the priority can just be having FUN!
The prom dress giveaway will be Saturday, March 26th, 8am-1pm, at Grandview Assembly of God church. You can stop by the church during those hours and look through the available dresses.Â
The church is at 12400 Grandview Road in Grandview, Missouri. For DIRECTIONS, click here!
Hey, guys! If you missed it, I had TV funny lady Melissa Peterman on with me recently, and she is so neat!Â
Her new show "Working Class" is entering its second week on CMT, and this week's episode is the one that guest stars Reba!!Â
If you miss any interviews on the Wolf, you can always catch 'em on our website on the "Audio Vault" page, but click here for a shortcut to the Melissa Peterman interview, so you can hear what she reveals about the Reba episode! FUN!
So exciting --the Oscar nominations have been announced! You can catch the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco, on February 27th.Â
And check this out:  the two movies with the most nominations are The King's Speech with 12 (!) and True Grit, which has 10 nominations.   It'll be interesting to see how that pans out!Â
What I try to do each year is see as many of the nominated movies as I can, so I know who to root for on the big night! This'll be a challenge, since last year they expanded the Best Picture category to TEN nominees.  And of course, there are other movies with various nominations that aren't in the Best Picture category... I'd better get crackin'!!Â
Here are this year's nominees, so you can play along at home! :-)

You know me -- I love awards shows! It's fun to predict the winners and root for your favorites. The 53rd annual Grammy Awards will be a month from now, and it's just been announced that Miranda Lambert will be performing! This'll be Miranda's first performance at the Grammy Awards.
Here are the categories that have COUNTRY NOMINEES -- let's all play along and root for our faves on February 13th!
Do you still have your Christmas lights and/or decorations up? I've seen many houses still lit up in all their glory, and if yours is one of them, I don't think you have anything to feel bad about!
The way I look at it (and feel free to use this as your 'excuse' ;-)) is that here in the KC area, we're very proud of our legendary Plaza Lights -- people come from miles around to see them! The Plaza Lights are left on for a while after Christmas, and it's perfectly acceptable. This year they'll be on until January 16th, so if anyone bugs you about your holiday stuff, just use that as your rationale!
And then you don't have to feel guilty until... the 17th.  LOL.
Hope you had a joyous holiday season with your loved ones!Â
And thank you so much for sharing your days with the Wolf in 2010.
Now here we are with a fresh start in beautiful 2011! Some call the year "twenty eleven," and others call it "two thousand eleven" -- I think we'll hear people debating that one for a while. LOL. Whatever you choose to call it, I wish you a safe, happy and healthy New Year!
First Snow! by Laurie Arbore, posted Dec 13 2010 9:47AM
Our first snow of the season!Â
Some people get excited about snow. Don't get me wrong -- it's *beautiful* to look at when it has just fallen and everything's sparkly-white! It has a really magical, winter wonderland feel.Â
I just don't enjoy clearing it or having to drive in it. Does it make me a 'grinch' if I'd rather have a green Christmas? LOL.Â
Snow or not, I wish you the happiest andmost blessed of holidays! :-)
By now, you guys know that I'm a sucker for awards shows. Making predictions and rooting for your favorites can be just as much fun as watching sports! THANKS to all of you who joined me on Facebook for an online 'watch party' during the 44th Annual CMA Awards. We've hung out now during a number of awards shows -- what a blast!
To get in on the conversation for future 'watch parties' and other stuff, please 'like' my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/lauriearbore :-)
Here we are in November -- how did that happen?  Wow, this year has been racing by, for sure!
This is a pic I snapped recently of some mums in our yard. They've just passed their peak, so I'm glad I caught the photo when I did! Maybe this sounds a little cheesy, but it's like a little visual reminder to stop 'n smell the flowers while they're here. Â
The holidays are almost here -- it's always a joyous time of year, but it also seems to go by way too fast!Â
So this year, my aim is to get stuff planned and done as early as possible, and then spend the rest of the season just enjoying. Let's hope it works! We all get so busy, but at least that's the goal... Happy November! :-)
Hope you've enjoyed the first week of fall!  What a pretty time of year -- and it's just going to get prettier!
Before ya know it, the holidays will be here, and things will really be busy. I'm making it a goal to pause to enjoy this season while it's here, so I put out some pumpkins the other day, and I'm excited to see the mums in our yard blooming. Wouldn't it be great if the weather just stayed like this? :-)
Here's a photo I snapped of some beautiful red leaves last fall. Can't wait 'til they get like that again. Have fun, guys!
Even though kids are back to school, and most summer activities have come to a close, we can officially say it's autumn in a couple days. I really enjoy the ever-changing seasons!Â
Now, the thought of what season comes next never thrills me (not a fan of the cold), but fall sure is beautiful while it's here!
I've always loved the autumn leaves and the explosion of color we get all around us, but I didn't really have a lot of fall flowers around until we bought our first house -- it was like a wonderful surprise gift to see a huge number of mums blooming, that previous owners had planted in our yard! Now I find myself stopping to smell the flowers almost all year long.
Here's wishing you a great start of autumn, full of fun surprises of your own!
Wow! THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Wolf's Fall Pet Adopt-A-Thon at Wayside Waifs! It was awesome to see so many of you walk into the event and walk out with new furry friends -- thanks to you, *175* precious dogs, cats, puppies and kittens have new homes!
My husband and I adopted a sweet little kitty a few years ago at the Wolf's first Pet Adopt-A-Thon at Wayside Waifs, and I can't say enough good things -- not only about how much we love our cat, but how wonderful Wayside Waifs made the whole experience!
If you weren't able to join us this time, but you think you'll be looking for a new pet (or two! ;-) )Â in the future, please visit Wayside Waifs. You'll be glad you did! There's lots of great info on their website: www.waysidewaifs.org .
I'm really excited to be emceeing again this year for the American Diabetes Association's "Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes."Â Â Â
Did you know that there are over 24 million Americans living with diabetes, including more than 320,000 in the KC area? That's a pretty staggering number to think about! I also read that one in every three children born since 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime -- that is, unless we stop it.   Every dollar raised will help the ADA fund research for a cure and provide programs in our community.
I hope you'll join me in supporting this cause. And check this out: this is one of the few walks in the city that has NO registration fee to walk!  How cool is that?Â
Here's the basic event info:
Saturday, September 25th
Theis Park, just east of the Country Club Plaza
Registration opens at 7:30am
Event starts at 9:00am
PleaseCLICK HERE to register for FREE and to get full details. (You can also call 1-888-DIABETES.)
Thanks! by Laurie Arbore, posted Sep 8 2010 8:26AM
Hi, guys!Â
Back from being on vacation last week. It was a blast (!), but I want you to know how blessed I feel to be able to come back and hang out with you each day on the Wolf.Â
Thank you for making us a part of your day and for gettin' your HOWL on!Â
This is just the neatest thing -- cancer-related causes have always been important to me, so I was really excited to see what's in the works !Â
Â
Mark your calendar for September 10 at 8pm, ET. Martina McBride is part of the all-star lineup for the "Stand Up to Cancer" concert, raising money for cancer research.
Â
And it's gonna be everywhere:Â you can see it live on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, the Style Network, TV One and VH1!Â
Â
Also participating that night will be Stevie Wonder, Natasha Bedingfield, Queen Latifah, Aaron Neville, Seth Rogen, Mandy Moore, Sharon Osbourne, the Edge, Reese Witherspoon and MORE!  The hosts will be Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams.Â
Â
I read that when they did this in 2008, over $100 million was raised -- let's hope they can do it again!
Check this out -- our pal Reba just hit yet another milestone! Her number of Facebook fans has passed the one million mark. Â
Now, I'm not psychic ;-) , but I'm sure Reba would want you to be a fan of the Wolf's Facebook page, too! Once we hit 50,000 people on the page, we'll throw a huge Facebook friends PARTY -- and you can help decide who performs at the par-tay!!
While you're at it, please join my page, if you haven't already. We have FUN together every day!
Luke Bryan has been a friend of 106-5 the Wolf since the very beginning -- you may recall that he performed at our first-ever Full Moon Bash. I'm so happy to share with you that Luke is a dad again!
Â
CONGRATS to Luke and his wife, Caroline, on their new bundle o' JOY! Their son, Tatum Christopher Bryan, was born this morning (Wednesday). He joins older brother Thomas Boyer "Bo" Bryan, who's almost 2 1/2. Just imagine the cuteness with those boys!
Â
Luke tells People magazine, "...it's going to be fun. I've already got new fishing spots picked out for us."
Wow -- we're already to August! How did that happen?Â
It's amazing how fast times flies, isn't it?Â
I hope your summer has been fun so far and, if you have kids, that you're able to make the most of the free time together before school starts up again! :-)
For years, we've heard people talking at this time of year about Christmas in July as more of a novelty, like as a party theme, etc. But how much less stressed would we all be at the holidays if we'd actually started our shopping and other preparations this far in advance, and we could just sit back and enjoy?Â
When the holidays finally arrive, I'd much rather have more time to be with my family and friends, than to be spending it in a frenzy of last-minute stuff. How much more fun would that be? Hmmm... this has me thinkin' I should start getting lists from people now! LOL.Â
And while we're at it, it's good to remember that charitable organizations need our help throughout the year; people in need aren't just in need at the holidays.Â
Ya know, all this talk about Christmas in July has me excited about getting a head start on the holidays -- we should have Christmas in July all year long! Now, if we could just have it be 80 degrees all year... ;-)
