Chevrolet & Youth Soccer

The Chevrolet Youth Soccer Program is a grassroots, community outreach program geared toward supporting local youth soccer leagues through donations of equipment, $500, and two (2) free soccer clinics. In 2010 nearly 700 children participated in Chevrolet Youth Soccer clinics in select South Central Regional markets: Baton Rouge, Dallas, Harlingen, Houston, New Orleans, and San Antonio. Chevrolet is anticipating increased growth and success with the program as it enters its second year in Fall 2011.

Chevrolet Youth Soccer & Dario Sala

Dario Sala, a retired professional goalkeeper with 17 years experience in South American, European and North American premiere leagues and international tournaments, led the 12 Chevrolet Youth Soccer Clinics across the South Central Region in 2010. He has played in roughly 500 official games, including 30 international matches. Since 2005 he was the goalkeeper for the Major League Soccer Team FC Dallas, recently retiring at the end of the 2010 season after being the most tenured person on the roster. Last year Sala was the recipient of the 'Hometown Hero Award' as part of the Dallas Sports Fans Choice Awards.  This award is given to the professional athlete in Dallas who is most exemplary both on and off the field, as voted by local fans and media.

See you tonight at Livestrong!

Been a while....

I'm really sorry I haven't been on here in a while. I have no excuse! But I need your help and I hope you won't ignore me the way I've been ignoring this blog recently.

I have a dog. Actually, it's my girlfriend's dog but it might as well be mine (he likes me more). Anyway, being a responsible dog-person, when I walk him around Westport, I carry those little blue bags to pick up know. Tyson is a 15 year old Shih Tzu and not a large dog. So knows.....aren't very big either. It would be easy for me to just pretend I didn't notice what he was doing and leave them where they lie, but I don't because I live in that neighborhood and I don't want to smell dog doo everytime I go outside! Recently, a lady has been walking what I call a small horse of a dog around the same neighborhood and NOT cleaning up after it. I don't know how to address this with her. What her "dog" leaves behind not only smells, but it's a tripping hazard! And it's EVERYWHERE! Any ideas?

Love to Lose!

Am I the only one who loves to lose an argument? I love that "holy crap!" moment when I suddenly see things from another point of view. It's like a drug kicks in and my whole world gets shaken. Learning a better way of seeing things is one of my favoritethings in the world.

Re: Taylor Swift's Grammy Performance

Scott Borchetta, president of Big Machine Records defended Taylor's performance to critics saying:

"She is the voice of this generation. She speaks directly to (her fans), and they speak directly back to her.

"This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It's not about that technically perfect performance."

Kelly Clarkson evidently was offended by the comment and wrote in her blog:

Wow …..Dear Scott Borchetta,

I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit ‘the high notes’. Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is “I’ll kick butt next time” or “every performance isn’t going to be perfect” ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won’t go according to plan or work out and that’s okay.

One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes.

Frog on the Golf Course

I wish I could take credit for this, but it was an email forward and I don't know who the author is. Enjoy!

A man goes out golfing. He is on the second hole when he notices a frog sitting next to the green. He thinks nothing of it and is about to shoot when he hears, "Ribbit 9 Iron."

The man looks around and doesn't see anyone. Again, he hears, "Ribbit 9 Iron." He looks at the frog and decides to prove the frog wrong, puts the club away, and grabs a 9 iron. Boom! He hits it
10 inches from the cup. He is shocked. He says to the frog, "Wow that's amazing. You must be a lucky frog?" The frog replies, "Ribbit Lucky frog."

The man decides to take the frog with him to the next hole. "What do you think frog?" the man asks. "Ribbit 3 wood." The guy takes out a 3 wood and Boom! Hole in one. The man is befuddled and doesn't know what to say. By the end of the day, the man golfed the best game of golf in his life and asks the frog, "OK where to next?" The frog replies, "Ribbit Las Vegas ."

They go to Las Vegas and the guy says, "OK frog, now what?"
The frog says, "Ribbit Roulette." Upon approaching the roulette table, the man asks, "What do you think I should bet?" The frog replies, "Ribbit $3000, black 6." Now, this is a million-to-one shot to win, but after the golf game the man figures what the heck. Boom! Tons of cash comes sliding back across the table.

The man takes his winnings and buys the best room in the hotel.
He sits the frog down and says, "Frog, I don't know how to repay you. You've won me all this money and I am forever grateful." The frog replies, "Ribbit Kiss Me. " He figures why not, since after all the frog did for him, he deserves it. With a kiss, the frog turns into a Gorgeous girl.

"And that is how the girl ended up in my room Elin. So help me God or my name is not Tiger Woods."

Made In America

I thought this was interesting. I didn't author it, but it was sent to me via email and wanted to share.

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following.

Good idea.... One light bulb at a time . . . .

Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking...

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now.. I do not buy it any more.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ... now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything...

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value.” I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price... The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland, Ohio .

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here...

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets. .. . Yep, you guessed it, bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!

(We should have awakened a decade ago ...)

Let's get with the program. .... Help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U . S . A ..

I passed this on ......... will you???????

American Saturday Night!

There's a country song in here somewhere. And Doug Paisley gets to play the hero. Because here's what happened on Saturday night (Jan. 9) at the Brad Paisley show in Wichita, Kans. Paisley's dad Doug saw a man on the floor in an arena hallway in some kind of distress (which turned out to be a heart attack), and he got down to business right away and started performing CPR along with another man. The man having the heart attack turned out to be an venue employee. And Doug Paisley, a volunteer firefighter and EMT, knew just what to do until the paramedics arrived. He was even getting the venue's automated external defibrillator ready. But then he said, "I kind of backed off and let (the paramedics) use theirs." Sounds to me like the elder Paisley was at least half the man he didn't have to be.

Melt already!

I started moving to my new apartment the weekend before Christmas. Thanks to the help of my good friends Rod (ladies, he's single!), and Metal Mark, all of the big stuff is moved. But most of the smaller stuff (like pots and pans, cds, and junk that I have collected) is still at my old place. I'm patiently waiting for the streets to clear and the temps to rise to get the rest.

Now, where am I gonna put it all?

Happy New Year!!!

Hey! I just wanted to take a few seconds to thank you for all of your support for The Wolf over the last year. It's been a difficult year for many because of the economy, and I realize you have bigger worries than which radio station you listen to the most, but you have made us a part of your life, and I can't possibly express to you how much that means to me.

I just passed the 17 year mark here in Kansas City, and even though there have been some downs, the ups have dominated. This is a fantastic area of the country and I have never felt more at home. Thank you for being my kind of people!

Here's to an exciting 2010!

Garth Brooks news from TMZ

Garth Brooks Sues: Hospital Made $500,000 Error
Posted Dec 16th 2009 12:28AM by TMZ Staff

Garth Brooks is waging a bitter legal war against a hospital in his hometown, demanding the Oklahoma hospital return a $500,000 donation he made because it never named a building after his mother.

It's all over a deal Garth claims he made with Integris Canadian Valley Regional hospital in Yukon, Oklahoma about four years ago. In his lawsuit, filed in state court in Oklahoma, Garth claims his donation was supposed to go towards a new hospital building that would be named after his mother Colleen -- who died from cancer in 1999.

But the building never got built -- despite a $27 million renovation and expansion project last year -- and Garth wants his money back claiming the hospital breached the donation contract.

The hospital claims it's all a giant misunderstanding and hopes the dispute will reach a "swift and amicable end."

I get to put in new carpet and paint. I have never picked out carpet and paint before, so the new place might look pretty weird when I'm done. Any suggestions?

My new kitten, Patches

I lost one of my buddies to cancer a few weeks ago. Ghetto was an odd cat and she made people laugh every time she met someone new.

I had no intention of replacing her, but my other cat Hoodie, who never made a sound, started crying every morning after Ghetto died. I guess that was their playtime. I had to get up every morning at daybreak (not my favorite time) and play with her for a while, then go back to bed and catch a couple more hours of sleep.

So.....Here's Patches!

Veteran's Day 2009

I realize how unlikley it is that all of us will someday see things from the same point of view, making war unnecessary. But unless you imagine it, it can never be. Thank you to the people who serve this country in the mean time. I'm sure peace would be much harder to imagine without you.

I am humbled by the sacrifices made by individuals and their families for the good of this country.  There may be people who would like to change things about America, but we sure don't see masses of citizens moving to countries they think are better.  We live in the best country in the world, thanks to our men and women in the armed services.

Cats and Dogs

We at The Wolf hook up with Wayside Waifs animal shelter a couple of times a year to help them empty the shelter so that they can take in more animals from other shelters that don't have as much room. Of course the cute dogs and kittens are the first to find homes, but there are some awesome adult cats that are hard to place.

If you have the room, and the love, please consider adopting an adult cat from Wayside Waifs. The great thing about getting an adult cat is that they have already developed their personalities and you can find one that fits your situation best. Some of them even get along with dogs!

Wayside Waifs is at 3901 Martha Truman Road in Kansas City. Their website is

Bad Boys

Back a few years ago, at what was then called "Verizon Wireless Amphetheater", a certain opening band was selling 8x10 pictures at their merchandise stand for $100.00 with the promise (I assume kept) that you could get the photo autographed after the show. It just so happened that the next day there was a big awards show in Las Vegas. I wonder what they did with the money. I thought and still do that asking people to pay for the "honor" of their autograph is lame.

They are a headliner now. Can you guess who they are?

State Of Mind

My alarm clock plays random songs from my music collection each morning to wake me up. I never know what's going to play. Sometimes it's some techno tune, sometimes it's a classic rock tune, sometimes a country song. This morning it was Clint Black's "State Of Mind".

I love laying in bed after the alarm goes off and just pondering what I remember of my dreams, thinking about what happened the day before, and looking forward to what will come today. It's a great time to think because my brain is rested and not bogged down by a whole day's events and other people's negativity.

Today, I started thinking about how, for every transformative event and era in my life, there are songs that bring me back to that spot. I can remember what I was doing, driving, the people who were in my life, smells, even what I was thinking at the time. This brought me to another thought. I'm not alone. I am not the only one who feels this way. Clint even wrote a huge hit to this effect! I started thinking about all of the people who are going through their own transformative period right now, and how the songs they hear on the radio now, are forever going to remind them of this time in their lives.

I play the songs on the radio each day that will forever remind people of where they were right now. Thank you for letting me be such a permanant part of your history. It truly is humbling.
